Your opinion about HD Tractor-trailer wreck and Texas icy slides caught on camera - January 24, 2014
Check this out- we do not have anything interesting today.
Dan Robinson- Very busy icy road season. Two major trips in the past week. Southern Texas last Friday the 24th, Alabama/Georgia on Tuesday the 28th. Here is video from Friday in Texas: HD Tractor-trailer wreck and Texas icy slides caught on camera - January 24, 2014
Fullforce LTX- did you really park your car on the side of the road (distracting drivers) and then stand on the opposite side of the road (very confusing and even more distracting to the drivers) and hold a camera and film them??????? Wtf is wrong with people!!!!??Or where you flagging them to slow down?Either way thanks for recording lol!!
Vlad B- Don't those people know not to hit the brakes in this type of situation. (Referring to the Tacoma).
vic rosa- what do u expect when u hit ice going 35+
46619TAB- I drive a little Japanese rice burner sports coupe car and use a local commuter highway to get to an from my job. Every year after a snow fall, I pass by several road warriors in their invincible 4x4 SUVs and 4x4 Pick Ups that are victims of slide offs. The best was a a few weeks ago, a warrior in an H2 blew by me like I was parked and when I passed by him a few miles down the road, he had the invincible ride upside down in the drainage ditch.
thezinkcoo- I just got my truck license and after watching this video I'm scared to start driving a truck
ChildOL- Believe it or not because of engine breaking it can cause you to slide sideways since you lose directional control UNLESS you give it a little gas (to help in keeping control of direction especially if it's not rear-wheel drive vehicle). If you simply do nothing with the gas pedal or even hit your breaks (especially a rear-wheel- drive vehicle) you will have zero directional control once you start to slide on SLICK ice.
CrazyBuzzy1- This is what you get for using cement instead of asphalt for the road surface!!!!On asphalt you have more or less even some chance to drive on such conditions....On cement....well...you are screwed :(
panch1925- People, DO NOT BRAKE when you slip on water, thats the worst thing you can do.
HighwayStuff- It looked like that trucker had his brakes on while sliding off the ice onto the dry pavement so it jerked him off the road. Just my opinion but I believe if he pushed in the clutch and just rolled across the bridge he would have been fine.
Roman Val- I've hit a few ice bridges before in my fwd Hyundai; the steering gets very light --- (like the front end is off the ground)... ... Luckily I was pointed straight and just pulled the clutch in and made no sudden moves- don't touch the brakes! ... As long as you're moving straight it should re-grip on the other side.
popacap21- 0:06 "whats up dude, mind if i chill w/ you?"
Marty Martin- I love icy roads! It separates the good drivers from the ones that have no business holding a license!
steveMCHS- O look a those are how roads are here in canada all the time only diff is most people know how to drive lol
jeff darnell- Thats why the teach you in drivers training to never slam your brakes when on ice, when you finally do grip that happens 0:06.
Danny Soldano- Pardon my ignorance I've only got 25 years experience. Why did this driver stop and why in that manner??? I mean just keep rolling easy did I see some panic here?
Ellys YZF- That idiot when the tow truck didn't double his line... Must not like the head on his shoulders, once you see someone get cut in half with a winch cable you will double your line.
Matthias Dailey- If you're sliding and you're diagonal, the last thing you want to do is stay off the brakes. You should lock the brakes to prevent your wheels from moving the car in their forward direction. If your back wheels gain traction after you've become diagonal, you'll go in that diagonal trajectory, as you saw with the blue pickup truck. So lock your wheels when you slide, so that you keep going forward and you don't change trajectory. Once you lock your wheels, your car becomes a giant sled and won't change its trajectory. If ABS prevents your wheels from locking, then my advice probably won't work.
czg2012- bridges and overpass plus freezing temps = black ice.
Ken Sillman- Ever herd of salt or calcium chloride? Its only the beginning. The southern states better get some equipment and start budgeting for this.Ice and snow don't cause deaths, your failure to properly maintain the roads does!
alilsouthosanity- top 3 reasons for the wrecks 1. speed 2. overconfident 3. should not have been out there anyways. a new job for being fired for refusal to drive in dangerous conditions is easier to find than an excuse for killing somebody.
George Zalaha- Don't mean to sound like I'm a know it all. But just trying to help. I've driven professionally all my life. Yes big trucks and no not swift. I guess not all swift driver's are bad but these guys where certainly having a bad day. Look at the first truck and guess what? He was crossing a bridge. Problem though he tried to control his vehicle before he made landfall on the other side. His steer tires were turned just enough so that once they gained traction his vehicle was tossed out of control. I know this sounds crazy and counterintuitive but when you know you're entering onto a bridge you know is iced take aim with that 40 ton vehicle even if your antigun. Aim that missile where you want it to go and take your hands off the wheel. Guess what. As long as you didn't flinch you're gonna hit your target. Take the flinch out of the whole scenario. Of course this refers to short overpass viaducts not very long bridges. So swift driver don't get confused. Also watch videos of cars out of control on ice and snow or as we refer to them as 4wheelers oppossed to 18wheelers and above. Notice that all four of their wheels are locked up completely. This is because their foot or possibly both feet are firmly planted on the brake peddle. Mashing down on the brakes is not going to get you out of trouble even with anti lock brakes. Antilock brakes still need some friction to operate. Counterintuitive as it may seem. You need to release the breaks and steer yourself out of danger using your brakes intermittently. So there you are then. Go and watch more cool videos be observant and keep these cues in mind.
ApocalypticStorms- You guys dont know to to drive on ice. Just cause the speed limit is 60. I do 35 on the highway at best if i know its really bad
Alex Knappenberger- who brakes on ice? n00b
Edward Hara- Stay Home!!!! What in the world do you have to do that is worth risking your life like that????
Learn Computer Science- Wrong. Road icing does not cause *any* injuries or deaths. Stupid drivers cause injuries and deaths.
Vita Antonyuk- Don't matter am I gonna push the brake or not in ice weather its not working anyway. if I wouldn't do, traction system will try to do something. Actually, Chevy or Ford traction control system way much better that Toyota's, it doesn't matter what they advertise. Tacoma guy did not do anything wrong, probably his transmission downshift on slippery spot. Front-wheel drive car will not notice that downshift, but with a back-wheel drive it is happen a lot
steve bhumz- HD Tractor-trailer wreck and Texas icy slides cau…: http://youtu.be/17aUXZOQ1zg
tryithere- They really should have a protection cage on wreckers. If that cable were to snap at 2:00. Half a man.
RavenSkye Walden- Bridges are the worst for ice but no one pays attention
Tim Kasey- Keep your front wheels pointed in the direction you are sliding (if you don't it will grab hard once your tires hit dry asphalt). Put it in neutral, and say off the break until your front wheels are off the ice.
thirstyy thristyy- a preventable accident, the driver didn't use proper driving speed, or response when he started to drift.
Don G.- Most American tractor-trailers trucks do not have 4 wheel anti-locking disc brakes with anti-skid control, like their European counter parts. It helps!
Lauzler- Metallbrücke gibt es auf der A45 im Sauerland auch. Die friert sofort ein, eine absolute Fehlkonstruktion!
Fred B.- I guess the State of Texas doesn't have any salt/sand/gravel trucks? Can't afford them right?
danwat1234- Pickup trucks are bad without traction control because of the RWD and not much weight in the back. A Honda Civic for example wouldn't have any problem.1:30, get new windshield wipers!
ChiDozer- @ Thezinkoo Dont be scared, yake
Scott Levan- no excuse for this at all you know when the roads are going to be bad I drive im always listening to the cb or the radio to see where the bad weather is ... 18 years of accident free driving here so I know what im talking about ...
Russ Torque- Those aren't just accidents, the drivers need to go back to driving school. Non proactive drivers!
