Matt allen- OK for all the Canadians / North Americas on here. For starters one of these machines was sold to a Canadian contractor. As our forests in New Zealand is generally planted on land not suitable for agriculture it tends to be steep, and if its flat, then its either sand or pumice country. Our main crop is Radiata Pine, not the crappy stuff in California, as we have been breeding them now for 100 years. These trees are usually 2 ton (metric) per tree. Too the arm chair loggers (and I think theres a few making comments here) there is a push to totally mechanise our industry and get the guys and girls out of harms way. If any one on here is prepared to say they harvest trees in steeper country then please feel free to travel to NZ and have a look around.
Matt allen- Well done to Nigel for being prepared to stick his neck out and buy one and try it out.
tim spence- they are an impressive machine .
leif eldby- This in nz isn't it up the east coast on Hikurangi forest farms block. I drive log trucks for William and Wilsher and saw this parked up at by Xmen logging skid Log 2
enfred01- mmm a lot of top soil is going down hill wonder how next growth is going to grow ...ran buncher for 32 years,,20 years on tilters ran a old drott 40 with just side tilt then a 27 then the prentice when it came out and ran them all ,,,
Deere2154D- That is a feller not a harvester. And if levellers are no good for hills you might want to come over to Alberta Canada and tell are buncher operators that are going up to 60% in them and while you are at it tell the skidder operators there machines are only good for 35% while they are climbing up there to get it down. Better off with a tilter on steep shit
Englebert buzzcutt- will go to 45 degrees which is 100%. 70% is only 35 degrees. 35% is a mere 19 deg...
Nigel Wilson- I was wondering why he wanted a winch cable on then when I saw the trees go sliding down the hill must be much steeper than it looks on camera but good machine nice vid thanks for posting
SandT Overend- dame good footage & machinery
jacob wynn- a flat base machine gives you the best 'feel' of how steep and dodgy the hill is, if your sitting in a level cab it would be easy to get 'forget' where you are. most levelers only go to 30 odd degs anyway. these guys go 45 plus.
evil2rs- @ironginger These custom machines can go over 45 degrees and still be safe. Use your brain before posting stupid comments . Leveling machines are less safe because you get a false sence of security for when he shit hits the fan and u slide. The ONLY advantage is they are more comfortable to opperate on slopes
nabberst4- thats a very cool video have to put more up of this machine
Harlan Mcdiarmid- Also why would your tracks ever be sideways when working a slope? .....a real slope anyway
Jessy James- Finally someone else that understands leveling machines are more unsafe, I work in the same blocks as this machine does and he goes to about 55-60 degrees. They have just put a second 1 on the hill
35ccook- amazes me they didn't use a levelling machine to begin with!
Harlan Mcdiarmid- This is not a "custom" unit. Looks like a tiger cat 830 LC to me. You guys need to see some of the slopes they have harvested around chetwynd bc Canada.
35ccook- did they have it on the 959 nigel kelly had
evil2rs- @ironginger on steep slopes a leveling machine is more dangerous you dip shit. Your obviously not experienced in actually using a leveling machine are you. If you were you would know that they are less safe than a flat bottom machine because if you are a full tilt at say 30 degrees , on a 30 degree hill, and a track looses grip causing machine to slide sideways then your at 60 degrees arnt you? And at that angle you are bound to roll over.
ironginger13- What a slow converted digger why don't you get a descent swing leveller and teach some bugger how to fell on da hill
Harlan Mcdiarmid- So I commented on the wrong video sorry guys. But want to know who's making these
jacob wynn- awesome, ive been looking for videos of 'climbmax' since you guys built it. makes my steep hill felling and shoveling look silly
ba3tard- who is clean up that mess ?
Tom Mccracken- how do i get work on one of the so i can make it easier to sky line
jonlogger- That is something that has been needed for years now yarding gets economic becaus material pre presented maximise every load.
stihl6601- near pelorous i gather
Jessy James- They have and are more dangerous. If they slide and turn the machine will be on more of an angle.
