Your opinion about Land Value Taxation and Agriculture
Check this out- we do not have anything interesting today.
Frank de Jong- So good.
D Bruce- The music intrudes nay obscures. Maybe its me but I don't remember it being there before, I'd prefer just a couple of interludes. I link to this video all the time.
Frank de Jong- Wonder why we have sprawl?
Frank de Jong- Array
Ben Jamin'- Land has value, but no cost of production. This is the purest form of monopoly there is. It is well known that monopolies distort markets, causing deadweight losses. In the case of land, mis allocation, over consumption and slow turnover of immovable capital. It is mismatch between the value that landowners consume, and what the pay fair compensation for(to those excluded for land) that causes urban sprawl.
Benjamin Gustafsson- Word!
Richard Danilda- Word!
Nate Blair- So good.
pirucreek- If you read Ayn Rand you will learn money going to government is one of the worse things you can do. City officials will just juice their salaries. How are you suppose to determine the land value of all these lots with structures on them.
Edward Dodson- Real farmers would benefit significantly if the rental value of land was their only contribution to the cost of government. However, to get the support of farmers, many of whom are deeply in debt, there has to be debt relief as a transitional measure. One way would be to provide subsidies on crop prices sufficient for farmers to service mortgage debt and other financial obligations. The subsidy value could accrue as a lien to be collected upon sale of the farm should that occur.
Jimmy Planket- I understand the statement about corn and soy, but why hay? Unless you're arguing that there shouldn't be any kind of livestock farming. With proper pasture management you probably get 8 months use for a pasture -- maybe 9.
johnburnsmorgan- It shows that LVT would make land be used more efficiently.
Frank de Jong- Good point, hay for cash crop is low value, but for animals for local use makes sense.
Frank de Jong- Scott, When government deems land of ecological significance and farmers are required or requested to take it out of production, the farmer should receive tax relief. Under LVT all land is taxed equally, so mono-cropping -- which is land intensive -- would pay more than presently, but labour-intensive agriculture, with buildings untaxed, and employees untaxed would become most cost-effective use of land near urban areas, i.e. best use.
Bill Batt- Nice, Frank. Congratulations. Very persuasive. B.
