Your opinion about Antique 1909 "Hit and Miss" International Harvester L-A Engine runs again.
Check this out- we do not have anything interesting today.
Rick Taylor- I've got one of these powering my gutter cleaning garden tractor.(YT video) Mine was made in 1935. It is the easiest starter, even in very cold weather. You just need to know when to let go of the starter crank handle. (you let go before the engine starts!). Later, RT. BTW, thanks for posting.
Robert Robichaud- This is called a Hit & Miss but this is not.A Hit & Miss controls the opening of one valve by a governer, makes an explosion and runs until it almost stops and close the valve again and explodes again. (Hit & Miss)Not this one the valves open and close with a cam shaft just like any modern engines.
JJ Dasher- This is not from 1909, not even close. Probably 30s-40's. And it is DEFINITELY not a hit and miss!
Brewster lug- PLEASE correct your narrative!!! Hit and miss engines "latch" the exhaust valve open to control the RPM. This is a throttle plate/governor controlled engine...
Blake Termeer- Does anyone know where I can find a fuel tank for one of these International engines, Type LB?
RCHobbyReviews- not a hit and miss
badchads68- This is a throttle governed engine, not a hit and miss engine. If you notice, it sounds just like any other engine with the exception that it runs slower than today's models. I have severan actual hit and miss engines as well as about 8 of the International harvester engines like this in the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 as well as the 3 to 5 HP. To hear a true hit and miss, type in Sattley for example and play the video to hear what hit and miss sounds like. This is typically known as a flywheel engine. Hope this clears up your confusion.
stilltlrforlife- Not governed by hit and miss. Sorry.
papi tolitz- WHERE WE CAN BUT SPARE PARTS OF THIS ENGINE. WE HAVE THIS KIND OF ENGINE AT OUR ANCESTRAL HOUSE IN OUR FARM OWNED BY OUR GRAND FATHER. IT'S VERY AMAZING. YES, REALLY ANTIQUE ENGINE.
avery brocmeyer- you say it your self that this aint a hit and miss in a way you say how its sounds and you easily hear that it aint
moxie99027- Actually the computive technology is quadrified beyond expansion which will energate a bioquantum piolard mass. This inovative design will be the future of mass life technology in the next triaxioum.
spawn dukes- This is not hit and miss.
Ron Carey- if reading the sereal number right its a 1935
Joey Griffis- Mr Dave, I would like to know just how much fuel will this engine burn ? Say how long it will run per tank full ? Thanks
j oyler- the IHC la & lb engines are not hit & miss the hit & miss have one rocker arm e on the exause valve onley the intake valve dose not have a rocker arme
steve studer- not a hit and miss engine and certainly not 1909 more like 40's. neet job on the engine still very cool
Sean Keys- That is no 1909 engine it is probably from 1949 and it is throttle governed. It is a pretty modern engine and it is what replaced the hit and miss engines.
yakyakyak69- I would love to see one of these doing meaningful work again.
diamant745- Who can fix an engine like this in Quebec or Ontario ?
Soldier53flyer- Nice find.
UnitCrane514- Nice engine but it is THROTTLE GOVERNED NOT HIT & MISS!
customeddie71- My father collects these old "one lungers" we used to go to every show all over New England when I was younger! I myself only have a 1929 may tag and a few Briggs and strattons. My father had quite a few more plus a 1941? Case VAC tractor. Check out my channel for video of some! Great video Dave! Thanks also check my vids on cigar box guitars!
Rob D- Pretty neat. Ty for posting
EngineVids- This is not a hit and miss , you can tell clearly between a throttle governed and a hit and miss.
TarenGarond- One can easily hear (and see) that the engine isnt hit and miss governed
Scott Rosengarten- Very cool. I love old stuff like that. Especially from the 19th century! Thanks to you and Derrick for sharing.
beech18s- An Interesting old engine. Does Derrick restore or collect these old engine ? Also the RV-8A that Derrick has, and you rode in. Did he build the airplane ? Tom
AKATEATime- Looks like a Mustang.
Dick Shinn- That RV video is the first one I saw when I discovered your site! The hit-and-mss engne was used for a lot of low-power applications (imagine..an early 1900's "app"!) such as pumping water and even running the washing machine!
Dick Gibson- Way kool man. The old stuff is real interesting and people should see it! Great Job..
mrstuart143- A real nice video you have posted there and a nice engine. The one thing it the engine is not a Hit and Miss. But that's just being picky. a realy nice engine tough.
startazz- Thanks for sharing this one Dave and i'm looking forward to the next video. ;-)
jauchiu- They mistook you for Candy D. ;-)
wordreet- Just imagine hoe relaxing this would be as a bike engine. You'd sit there calm as you like at 8mph, with the engine firing once every telegraph pole. B¬)
crookedtool- This engine is all hit, and no miss. Check out a real hit-and-miss engine on Youtube. They are certainly more interesting.
BRENT DUNBAR- Try and put that engine in a foamy rc plane and fly it. LOL....
jauchiu- Great video.
Gavin Davey- Over here in England, the old farm boys, used to put a chicken's egg in a sock. They then put it in the water header tank. They would then have a hard boiled eggs for their tea break.
bassax7045- must be the long hair ;-)
bassax7045- "For Youtube Police. Background track was produced by me on my QChord Synth " recognize that Dave, those greedy monsters have claimed the rights several times on my own sax playing they think they own the world ;-)
