Check this out- we do not have anything interesting today.
Dagekk968- Best thing that has ever happen to Detroit. Next: Compton.
Mike Breen- Array
Jeremy Wood- So if a Black executive owned this operation and lived in in the suburbs far from the city, would that be OK because he's black? Focus on the people in the area and take race right out of it. Cherish the what we can learn from each other and then racism can start to diminish. I would not support any operation that said: White Community Food Security Network. Would you? Fair is fair you know. If it doesn't go one way, then it shouldn't the other. There is a great thing here if the race thing can be taken out of it.
fredfred burger- more drivel- Oh we've discovered the Holy Grail ! Wow you can grow your own food.
benrobinson77- Everyone complaining about the Black/White thing need to listen to what this guy says. He says the area is 85% Black, and many urban Black folks look down upon farm work and/or have no relation to it. People in urban areas wee this as slavery. Im Black and White from a non-urban small town I see how certain people in my Black family (my dad especially) are looked down upon for doing this field work. So by putting the word "Black" in the name helps affirm the majority of the population. Sounds good to me. And the more Black people who are doing that work to set an example, the more others might follow. And who knows, perhaps if a few white folks showed up who were true to their cause and respected their mission perhaps it would be okay.
stevemoney1000- Why is urban agriculture a black/white thing ??? This kind of thing fuels racism. If we are going to actually get past racism issues we need to drop these labels. Detroit is not black peoples city. It is not white peoples city. Color doesn't matter anymore so drop it. If 10 white boys want to start a farm in Detroit because they don't have a job across the street from this guy...the city should do absolutely nothing.
Aní Mwalimu- I say hat's off to our brothers and sisters in Detroit for striving to determine your own future in a manner worth repeating throughout this country!
worawet sittichai- This is amazing. I come from an agriclture country. I am glad that I saw this on Detroit. Being a farmer is great, I don't understand why some people have think of it as the opposite. Farmers give you good food such as fruits and vegetables, result in good health. Better than eating McDonalds which is very fatty and unhealthy...
coopercraft- Observation: As much as people who are a minority claim how much they hate racism, it seems to me that many of them are creating self perpetuating racism - why not ignore the racial barriers and make it the Detroit "American" community food security network? By calling it a Mexican, Chinese, or Black effort you're just fueling the fire of something that you say that you hate.
stevemoney1000- Hopefully John Hantz can do more like this guy. This is great.
Sam I Am- Insanity..
Aní Mwalimu- To your comment Coopercraft, did you listen to what he said about black folk in the city (85-90%)? Have you tried to understand why he is talking about black folk being in control of the process of securing food in a sustainable and organic way? If you do an iota of research you will find the time-honored tradition of politically marginalized and denigrated communities being used as pawns in larger power moves that disguise themselves as progressive stewards of the betterment of the city.
