Your opinion about International Harvester LA Engine 4.0 - Wranglerstar
Check this out- we do not have anything interesting today.
grassroot011- Use some Boraxo to help coat and shield the work from oxidation.
Paul Ogea- Did you consider putting a small spring on discharge side of the ball bearing?
Frank B- Cody,try eastwood.com for the gas tank sealerhttp://search.eastwood.com/search?w=gas%20tank%20sealer%20kit I
hartstudebakerkid- You could have just fluxed and slodered it with a propane torch.
Frank B- Cody,There is a substance you can use to coat a rusty gas tank with. It is an epoxy like material. Look under the websites that sell antique tractor parts. Also you may find it in motorcycle shops. It keeps sediment out of the gas and fills pin holes.Frank
Curtis newman- Instead of Brazing the brass fitting / check valve, red loctite works to seal the threads.
david duff- he said dying to death haha
Kevin Zuhlke- I dont know for sure but this engine was probably built to run on ethanol.
RadicalRC- Dragging on? Hardly. Like like like like li.......
rockinrowdy13- holy moly Cody..you're killing me here! I want to see that 'ol girl fire up!
CanadianTradition- Hi! Great videos you're making!!! I just paused the video for a sec to write this. What you can do to clean the inside of an engine is run diesel fuel for a couple of min instead of oil. Not too long tho, but just enough to clean. Drain and put new oil & filter(no filter on this engine I think?). It's better to do the oil and filter twice to get the fuel out. An example for this trick is if a water gasket let's go and all the coolant goes in the oil. It's the easiest way to clean all the tiny passages. Also a good trick to hone any cylinder is taking a 1/4 inch rod, whatever length you want, slot it on on end with a hack saw about an inch so you can take a piece of sand paper or emery cloth that comes in a roll, fold 1/4 inch one end of the sand paper and slide it trough the rod. The length of your paper will depend on the size of the cylinder . Now take the rod and put it in a die grinder and voila the perfect honer. Make sure the rod is totally straight or it will be hard on the soft hands as your wife would say, hahaha. Then you just tear a little bit of paper as it wears. Makes perfect cross hatch patterns.Since in the giving tips mode may as well say this one too. If you have a tiny little spool valve that is sticking, hydraulic spool for example, ashes from a cigarette dropped in the hole and inserting the spool in and out a few times and repeating the ashes will sometimes work to stop the spool from sticking. You have to be careful cuz you could possibly end up plugging some tiny hole somewhere. To anyone, Use this trick wisely!!!Ciao!
hartstudebakerkid- That gasket material that you bought from NAPA will not last. I have used it and it simply will burn out BUT since you have the old gasket you can make a new one out of a piece of sheet copper. I have a place in Yakima I can get it so you should have a local place too. Just use the old head gasket as a template and trace it with a sharpie. You can cut it out using a roto zip or even aviation snips. The reason that your friend told you to use a proper gasket or the yellow snot or copper coat type sealant should have been evident when you pulled the cover........All the little silicone stringers that were on the inside of the case. They fall off and get in places they should not be.
wranglerstar- Array
Nathan Dean- permatex can with stand the heat of those good 'ol engines.
Jiří Novotný- I thought I saw it ages ago and really! :) http://youtu.be/Tecjf_q0myQ?t=34m59s Great video, great to see such perseverance and skill.
iwantosavemoney- very cool the way you made that gasket I have never seen that method done be for. it is a good day when I learn something new. God bless you and your family
Chris Bergen- Hey wranglerstar? R u making the subscriber too ten soon? Thx
bldeagle10- Can we get the links to the videos for mobile users?
nathanyamaha465- just curious, why is there a 10 minute threshold?
69Phuket- It's teaching not teasing. Old engine won't give up secrets easy...It's heart surgery :)
Colin Terry- Very clever!!
PythonBalls- More videos with Jack!
landyandy83- Wow, will it run? who knows. My guess is there is still a bit of work to be done before she runs. The suspense is killing me. Great work.
Benedict H- For all the grief and ignorance you endure in the form of YouTube comments, it's a testament to your good nature, patience and perseverance that the angriest thing I've seen you do (after watching about 100 of your videos) is throw aside that ugly piece of brazing!
James Smith- Thumbs up for broader distribution!
Marcus Aurelius- In welding the saying goes: do your best, grind the rest.
DutchKnifeGuy- 3.20 am and I'm watching a video on a old engine. Must be something wrong with me. Hahaha :-)
Will Douglas- Aaaaaah I have no idea why I am so invested in seeing an old engine run when I know the outcome from the sputtering in the intro but I thought I wouldn't see anything till tomorrow and now Sunday night I just want to see it run........ Cody aaaaah
Nortekj- Cody, From the clonking sound the engine makes when slowly turning it over, makes me believe it has an Impulse Magneto. Your video of showing the points cleaning wasn't too clear if the entire magneto housing was bolted on or if it can be rotated. The way it is making the popping sound when trying to start, indicates to me that it may be a bit out of time. I would remove the engine head and while rotating the engine look to see where the piston is located just as the magneto makes it's "Clonk". The piston should be at or almost at top of cylinder travel when it does make the clonk sound. When it does run, you can loosen the bolts to the magneto and then slowly rotate the magneto until you get the best running position, then tighten bolts Hopes this will help n getting it running properly.
Jeremy Urban- I am really enjoying watching this engine series! Thanks for taking the time to make this content available.
palmettobouy1- Way cool
Josh H- Awesome
trespire- Looking good :-) Good job you pulled off the cylinder head !Take care of the engine, & it will take care of you.
Chris Bramell- What's the reason for the 10 min threshold? Do you have a limit?
diluted rep- Some times I drip fuel in spark plug hole
Bucwe Fazir- ohhoo thanks man gud job
Dave Johnson- The ol "ball peen hammer trick" ! forgot about that, used to do that when rebuilding those old donkey engines in my high school days :)
Hugh Frater- Hi again from the UK. Do you have any silver solder? It would be perfect for those jobs such as the check valve build and flows much better than brazing alloy, and at a lower temp. Keith from turn weight machine works has some good videos where he uses it to effect some great repairs. Hugh
josh viking- smiles...Shop Dog Sam...yes THE Man
