Your opinion about LAWN TRACTOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM REPAIRED
Check this out- we do not have anything interesting today.
Terry Harrington- where did you find the diagram and schematic my mower wont charge also diode is gone where can i get one, thx from a DAV in advance
Aaron Kirleis- Great video and in depth how to...this is my issue as well,...but in my case the battery would not charge,...through looking at the wiring....and found a butt splice where the diode should have been.
Etillano Takiem- Can I buy one off u got same mower same problem
Kevin Davis- So was the Diode the main problem or symptom? Did the diode cause the main fuse to blow? I have been loaned the same lawn mower as yours. It won't start either. Battery terminals were horribly dirty. I cleaned them and charged the battery. No Crank. After watching your video I went back out and found that the owner had replaced the fuse with a wire (no bueno). My guess is that it kept blowing. I will tear into it tomorrow and go through all the grounds and connections as well as make sure the relays are functioning properly. I was just curious if the faulty diode was causing your fuse to blow or if you just had a short or something elsewhere.
Julian Raven- Nice bit of detective work! I have a 23 HP Kohler on a 2000 Craftsman. My problem is that there is a short somewhere that cuts in and out after it runs. I mess with the wires and it kicks on....then it is dead....I have bypassed the seat switch, clutch safety etc. So now am looking to find the problem any ideas?
Bike Mann- Thanks man, excellent help for me. Looking for a diaode now and why my LT1000Craftsmen wont recharge its battery. It wont keep running nnow thought it is the coil but bet its the diaode. Thanks again, very throughal.
Allan Simon- Good catch, you helped so many with your videos. Thanks, for sharing your knowledge. That diode may be the rectifier which sends dc pulses to charge the battery, Too many mowers have that dead battery problem.Great.!
Sandra K Ellis- Thank you so very much. I could not find a diaode at any of the repair shops that weren't at least a week out for delivery. I went to a lawnmower graveyard and cut one off and it worked! My mower started and I was able to mow the yard. Whew!!!
D H- I have a 1998 craftsman 971270940 with a 20hp briggs, look identical to the mower pictured here except my gas tank is mounted beneath the seat, and the battery is under the hood. I have a quick question, Everything on my mower is working, except the lights. I've replaced the bulbs, Ive checked and cleaned connections from the ignition with all the way to the bulbs, still not working :( any thoughts or ideas?
whalesong999- Good find on the diode. I was a Craftsman road tech for four years, didn't meet this problem but those relays, if your machine is left in the weather, those were prone to get moisture inside because of the way the were mounted. Be sure they hang so that water can't enter the case where they snap together.
mike kotz- My mower wouldnt start and after running a few tests the starter was shorting out. so i replaced the starter and it cranks but now i dont get a spark or lights any ideas would be help full thanks
Miles Veasley- I have a craftsman that was given to me about two months ago just like that one. I ordered a new starter and solenoid but while beating the crap out of the starter because it was stuck I noticed there was a fuse that had blown- not sure if its the replacement for that diode or not but its good to know to look for this afternoon when I get back started. Thanks
Ed Mateunas- My main keeps blowing on a Kohler 14 l don't want to buy new thanks I will check it out
Victor Taylor- Very good video thanks very much
JOHNNY BROOKS- i am tring to find out why i can not get any fire ti the clutch switch on a friends mower that i am working on any thoughts ?????
Bill Branning- Classic smoke test troubleshooting:Fuse blows, Insert bigger fuse, Whatever smokes - That's the problem!
David Thorne- What was the # off that diaode?
Butch Keller- I have a 10 year old craftsman 18HP. It worked fine except for the brakes. I adjusted the brake as per the owners manual, but it was too tight after I loosened it back up now the engine dies when releasing the clutch or trying to engage the mower deck. I checked the safety switch and they are all OK. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!
fatboydan02- the one with the bad diode, are you saying the problem was it wouldn't start? I have a JD LT133 with a Kohler 13HP that I can jump ,but it won't start,it'll just zoot over.I can unhook the plug the goes up to the stator and it will start if I jump it,but will not start with the key.also the only way I can get it to shut off is hook the plug connector back together....
lead foot lawn mower- i know this is an old vid but you can get 100s of them off ebay for about 6 to 8 bucks
Andie Piercy- I repaired it last week, it turned out the solenoid was faulty , I replaced this and installed a key switch after the last owner has replaced this with a push start straight across the solenoid terminals, (it was hard to turn off like this) the layout of the new switch terminals was different to the old and it took me a gook look at a wiring diagram to work that out, swapped two wires and it works like a dream. I guess you cant take anything for granted.
Gunners762- Good going ! Glad it was a cheap fix.......
biloximurder- Thanks it is people like you that help people like me. Your great can't wait to go look in my garage for a diode.
V8power327- the only thing i hate about small engine repair/ troubleshooting is the electrical wiring, i cant stand it and it takes me days to figure whats wrong with it.
BigTamism- 805ROADKING, many thanks for uploading this video brother. I had exactly the same problem and I figured it might be a diode but was damned if I could find the damn thing. Watched your video and now I know, I just checked on my tractor and it was in the same place and sure as shit it's blown. Again many thanks for the upload.
januaryman169- ok, I had an 1981 CB900 custom that had the same paint design. My bike was burgundy muse red. If you look through my vids I have a few off it. It looked more brown than anything.
D-Ray Smith- Great job troubleshootin' there E.J., I enjoy chasin' down electrical gremlins like that. It's amazing how simple alot of problems are to fix once you figure them out. Give that man a beer! Still tryin' to figure out what to do with those rigs?, yank th' decks off, you an' Racer could hot lap 'em a few times in th' back yard! Yee Haa! lol!
jon faulkner- I just put a kholer motor in a craftsman mower and that is the exact problem I had. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out, this video was awesome THANK YOU!!!!
805ROADKING- You're welcome Sparky!! That's great that it was able to help ya!!☺
ShawnCFarm- I'd love to get my hands on those mowers lol. I'm going to look at mine as I have to jump the start have the time to get it to start
805ROADKING- It was just a standard diode from Radio shack 1N5404 400v 3A
jacobfain9- theres supposed to be a 30amp fuse in the plug
805ROADKING- @56CrownVick Thanks Chuck!! Great idea with the breaker!! The diode was a 1N5404 or a 1N5406 will work!!☺
805ROADKING- @V8power923 I'm with ya Buddy!! electrical blows!!☺
805ROADKING- thanks for checking out the video Bud!! I know what ya mean, that had me baffled for about two weeks!!☺
805ROADKING- @paradoxdesigns Thanks Buddy, this one had me a little perplexed for a while!!☺
805ROADKING- @ShawnCFarm I have a trickle charger mounted on my other mower and keep it plugged in all the time. I don't ride it enough to keep it charged!!☺
805ROADKING- I can't really diagnose an electrical problem without being there Bud!! But the first thing you gotta do is see if you have any bare wires touching the frame anywhere, sounds like you're getting a dead short somewhere!!☺
My Videos- Hey Thanks a million i had the same problem! Gonna fix now! Cheers!
805ROADKING- @NomaDairy Yeah, I got lucky with this one!!☺
